I can hear their voice very clearly and audio too, just the screen. The mouse cursor is also quite smooth but everything they click or switch windows is very delayed.

If you are using video, try stopping video first to see if that helps. You can check the network bandwidth in the statistics provided by Nafi. At least kbps is required. Obviously, all users joining a meeting need to be able to see and hear clearly from any device. Improving audio quality means improving any meeting outcome. The best way to improve the audio quality on your Zoom calls is to use a high quality microphone and make sure it's set up properly. Computer audio meaning the microphone built into your laptop or webcam doesn't have the quality or fidelity of an independent microphone. As well as better audio quality, you can access your microphone more easily, positioning it, and yourself optimally for the best sound delivery.
Alternatively, a good quality headset will sound better than the microphone on your computer, and isolate your audio from background noise. Zoom gives you the option of how you connect your audio when you're joining a meeting. You can connect via your computer's audio, or by dialing into a phone number. You should choose the option that gives you the best sound quality, but only choose one, otherwise you'll experience unwanted echo.
Make sure to check that your microphone isn't picking up sound from your speaker if you are using an external speaker. Echo can also occur if you're too close to another person who is on the same Zoom call.
One of the most controllable things you can do to improve audio quality during a Zoom meeting is to check your proximity. Too close to the microphone can make your voice sound muffled and accentuate all sorts of unwanted breathing and saliva noises. If you sit too far away, you risk being drowned out. If you're using a microphone built into your computer or webcam, you should position yourself within two feet of it. With an external microphone, the ideal position should be about six inches away.
Zoom, in its default settings enables a suite of sound enhancements to dumb down background noise. The downside is that using these settings can sometimes make your audio choppy.
Alternatively, there apps to access that can work better than Zoom's built-in offering. This takes well over a second, depending on how far I move the cursor. I tried sharing a portion of the screen instead of a window.
This would be, by far, the preferred way to do this since I would not have to re-share the screen every time I change applications. Unfortunately, performance even when sharing the same x portion of the screen is even worse. Cycling from preview to preview causes a lag of between 4. So each image takes about 5 seconds after I press the key and the new image appears on my desktop, before it shows on the laptop.
If I zoom in so the preview fills the available preview space, so the preview is approximately x, the lag gets worse, becoming between 5. Performance remained the virtually the same, with the lag in a x window being between 1. And it gets worse if I share a portion of the screen. Is this simply that my DSL connection is inadequate for me to source presentations? Or is the data connection to the viewing laptop inadequate? Or something else? I can relate to your presentation issues because I've been experiencing similar problems on Zoom in making Keynote presentations with various groups via Zoom Webinars and Meetings.
I cannot tell whether it is the content and size of files or the internet connection that is causing the issue or an inherent flaw in the Zoom Platform. I am presenting on both DSL and also fiber optic Internet connections — and seem to get the lag issues either way. If you get a fulsome reply from support, I hope to catch the answers. I finally got a reply from Zoom. They want a bunch of information and authorization to access the meeting - which I don't think I have. So, I dumbed down the software hugely.
I ran Lightroom in a x window on my screen. So, the dumbed down software is in a small portion of the screen. I have hardware acceleration turned on for everything. Again, I don't know if that's helping, but I figure it can't hurt. We've done two test sessions with a dozen people, and the lag is now largely reduced.
It's low enough that using a mouse and moving from image to image is now possible. Since I travel quite a bit, I bring a foot Ethernet cable with me in case I have access to an Ethernet port to plug into.
Use your cell phone as a mobile hotspot and log into Zoom using your mobile data. Generally, the further you are from the router, the weaker and slower the signal will be. Move yourself and your device so you can physically see the router and test if that improves the signal. Move your router to a more centralized position in your house. If possible, move the router away from thick walls, metal objects, or large appliances which could interfere with the signal strength.
